Chakar/Chakanai Chana Affinities
This chart is basically like a spellbook for the Chakar/Chakanai. It's not exhaustive, but contains most of the affinities used in the story as well as some you haven't seen yet. They're sorted by commonality; affinities that you'd see in the majority of the population are considered "common", while affinities you only see once in a while are "uncommon" and affinities you almost never see are deemed "rare". Fortunately, most of the most useful ones are common, although that's not to diminish the importance of the uncommon and rare ones. This contains spoilers for Chapter 3 of Slayers Balance, so if you haven't read that far, please don't read it.
Common
- Chana sight (the ability to sense others with Chana, all Chakar/Chakanai have this)
- Telekinesis (the ability to move things without touching them)
- Teleportation (the ability to transport oneself and/or others to another place instantly)
- Energy Transfer (the ability to send energy to another person or to store it in an object)
- Energy Manipulation (energy manifested in the form of light, bolts of power, etc.)
- Telepathy (the ability to read minds)
- Healing (the ability to fix broken bones, close wounds, etc., but the ability to cure disease is limited)
- Strength Amplification (really a subset of telekinesis but treated separately because of its usefulness in handling the heavy indigenous Chakar weapon, the shakak)
- Wind (really a subset of telekinesis, air can be moved just as if it was another object)
Uncommon
- Fire (the ability to spontaneously generate fire and/or control it)
- Water (the ability to spontaneously generate water and/or control it)
- Empathy (the ability to read others' feelings, like telepathy only with feelings)
- Destruction (the ability to destroy things)
- Visual Amplification (the ability to see farther than normally humanly possible)
- Hearing Amplification (the ability to hear better than normally humanly possible)
- Night Vision (the ability to see in the dark)
- Stealth (the ability to cloak oneself and/or others from others' Chana sight)
Rare
- Retrocognition (the ability to see into the past)
- Precognition (the ability to see into the future)
- Disruption of time (the ability to separate the flow of time from reality in a limited area)
- Chana blockade (the ability to block another person's Chana)
- Invisibility (the ability to warp light so that it bends around the subject and therefore others see through the subject)

In the Author's Notes to Slayers New, I included a pronunciation guide for names and places. In Slayers Balance, we get a closer look at the Chakar and Chakanai, including a look into their culture's ancient roots. Here's a pronunciation guide for Ancient Chorioni, the ritual language of the wielders of Chana. Note that the ' character separates syllables so they are not run together (i.e. Tes'sha is pronounced Tess-shah, not Tesha).
Phonetic Pronunciation of Ancient Chorioni:
- a = "ah" (in rare cases, pronounced like a in "at", never pronounced as a in "cake")
- ch = "(h)y"
- e = "ay" or "eh" (never "ee" as in "see")
- f = always whispered
- hr = whispered "h", gutteral "r"
- i = "ee" (i.e. "see")
- k = a very hard "k" sound, as if it's almost spit out
- kh = gutteral, forceful sound
- kr = gutteral "k", forward "r" (like a pirate "arr" ^^)
- ll = "yiyeh"
- o = "oh" or "aw" (rarely the latter)
- r = flipped (neither rolled nor straight, like in English)
- u = "ooh" (same as in English, only sounds lazier, lips aren't moved to form the sound)
